DIY P10 RTC Smart Clock with NodeMCU ESP8266 and Web Interface

Have you ever wanted to build a smart clock that not only shows time and date but also lets you set alarms and change scrolling messages directly from your smartphone? 🚀
In this guide, we’ll explore how to create a portable smartwatch-style clock using a P10 LED panel, NodeMCU ESP8266, and a DS3231 RTC module.

🔧 Features of the Smart P10 Clock

  • Real-Time Clock (RTC): Accurate timekeeping with the DS3231.

  • Scrolling Text Messages: Customizable messages displayed on the P10 panel.

  • Web Interface Control: Connect your smartphone to the ESP8266 via Wi-Fi and configure everything through a simple web page.

  • Alarm Function: Set multiple alarms with a buzzer alert.

  • Manual Alarm Trigger: Test or trigger the alarm instantly with a physical button or from the web interface.

  • EEPROM Memory Storage: All settings (time, alarms, messages) are saved and restored after power restart.

  • Portable Design: Just one P10 board acts as the display — making it compact and smartwatch-inspired.

🛠️ Components Required

  • NodeMCU ESP8266 (Wi-Fi enabled microcontroller)

  • P10 LED Matrix Display (HUB75)

  • DS3231 RTC Module

  • Buzzer

  • Push Button

  • 5V Power Supply / Battery Pack

  • Jumper Wires & Breadboard / PCB

⚡ How It Works

  1. The RTC (DS3231) module keeps track of real time even when the device is powered off.

  2. The NodeMCU ESP8266 controls the P10 LED panel using the PxMatrix library.

  3. A Wi-Fi Access Point is created by the ESP8266. You can connect your smartphone to it and open a built-in web page.

  4. From the Web Interface, you can:

    • Set the current time/date

    • Update scrolling messages

    • Add, edit, or delete alarms

    • Trigger a test alarm manually

  5. A buzzer is activated whenever an alarm goes off, while the alarm message scrolls across the P10 display.
